5 reasons to add South Africa to your bucket list
South Africa is, in many ways, the real treasure of Africa. It’s a place where East and West collide, and a smorgasbord of different cultures, customs, people, and landscapes. This is the place you’ve always dreamed Africa would be, and there’s a reason why 2018 was a record year for tourism in South Africa. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, more than 2 million jobs in SA will be affected by tourism in 2028.
This is one of those places that many people already have on their bucket lists, and if you don’t, then you should.
Don’t believe me? There are loads of epic reasons why I think SA needs to make it onto your bucket list, but these are five of the key ones!
The wildlife in South Africa ranks among the best on a continent famed for its stunning wildlife. If you’re looking for a powerful South African safari experience, there is plenty on offer here, such as a luxury stay at the famed Kruger National Park. You might like to consider a game drive through Mala Mala Game Reserve, where you can enjoy 15,000 hectares of gorgeous land, and see some of the most bold and beautiful animals in Africa.
2. Cape Town
There are many notable cities throughout the world, but Cape Town might just be the most iconic in all of Africa. This is an absolute must-visit city and should be your first port of call when you arrive in South Africa. For one thing, there are the sensational surroundings, and gorgeous sights like Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope. For a bit of rest and relaxation, you could head to Boulders Beach, while La Colombe restaurant offers exquisite South African cuisine.
3. The great wide open
One of the biggest appeals of going to Africa for a lot of people is the wide open natural beauty on display. This is certainly something that ticked boxes for me, and we decided to explore it via the Rovos train ‘Pride of Africa.’ This was our chance to see the great, sprawling railways of South Africa, and we embarked on a three-day journey from Durban to Pretoria, seeing some of the most amazing sights in South Africa while drinking plenty of delicious wine, and enjoying wonderful hospitality.
You might not have associated South Africa with beaches before your visit, but you almost certainly will after. There are some delightful beaches here, including Boulders Beach, that you’ll definitely want to check out. However, there are also plenty of hidden gems when it comes to beaches in South Africa. See how many you can tick off the list!
5. Get a history lesson
South Africa has such an important historical background, as it has had to endure apartheid, the Boer War, and colonisation. But it has managed to come through these things and become one of the most diverse and cosmopolitan cultures in the world. I would certainly suggest taking a trip to Bloemfontein to visit the National Museum, where you can learn more about the history of this great nation.
As you can see, there are so many different options for experiencing enjoyment, fun, and adventure in South Africa. It’s a country with an important past and a bright future, and you need to make the most of that. You can travel here to see breathtaking scenery, experience the primal force of nature, and eat wonderful food.
These are some of the top benefits of visiting this unique nation. If you can think of any I’ve missed, please let me know in the comments below.
